2nd HCSM Summit 2016

Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Health and Research Development (PCHRD) Successfully hosted 2nd Health Care Social Media Summit 2016 "Social Media & Healthcare: From Click to Brick" at Philippine International Convention Center last 21st of April, 2016.

The event highlighted the intervention of Social Media as a tool to connect with people for further development of healthcare awareness. The summit was divided with six breakout sessions or tracks: Ethics, Patients' Stories, Education, Policy, Advocacy and Research. The summit served as platform to discuss further development and collaboration for more effective use of social media

I chose Education and Research track at meeting room 2-3. I was able to meet great people that taught me even i'm young, age is just pure number, no sense of discrimination. I was in a crowd of professionals, doctors, physicians and other health care industry players.

I chose education because our blog aims to motivate student and young individuals (not only in academe) through social media. Dr. Nomar Alviar gave us insights for variety of forms for learning structure and other effective learning activities and Dr. Iris Thiele Isip-Tan taught us how twitter can be your classroom though social media interaction and making your class more interesting.

According to Dr. Iris "Using Twitter improves brevity and depth of the students" i highly agree about it. Some of my classmates doesn't like twitter because of 140 character limitation but for me i saw it more like a challenge and that is the reason why i used it more than facebook. At the end of the session we are expected for a group output of making learning plans using social media tool. The interesting part of it, we are able to optimize what social media tools we know and how we are able to incorporate it as learning platform.

In Research Track, Dr. Venus Oliva Cloma-Rosales gave us insights of how we are able to make use social media as avenue of data gathering and collating necessary information for development of Research. We can make used of it for literature search, making use of micro-blogging and scientific social networking sites like researchgate.net and herdin.ph. Dr. Venus also gave us ethical concepts for social media use. At the end of the session we are expected to make a pre-proposal to conduct health research using social media.

For the totality of the summit, the event turned out to be an avenue of meeting great people and knowing that people are willing to make an impact through social media. But like what the event said Social Media is only a tool to make a change we want to see, we have to make a move to make an impact. As a youth, a summit like this gave us more broader knowledge of how infinite and powerful the technology and to be specifically the Social Media. #IskolarAko

YEDW (Mentor Me: Innovation Forum)

Go Negosyo successfully hosted the YEDW-Mentor Me Innovation Forum at the Enderun Colleges. Taguig City, Manila. The forum is part of the Youth Entrepreneurship Development Workshop series in partnership with the US Embassy. Go Negosyo organized this forum to gather innovators, enablers and entrepreneurs whose expertise cover major topics such as innovative products or services development, operation processes, and innovative business models. The US Embassy brought in innovation experts from Endeavor, GE, and from the Silicon Valley such as Google and IBM. We also had local innovators who were graceful enough to share their insights, some of which are MobKard, Navegar Fund, Ideaspace, Bambike, SL Agritech and many more.

Over 800 participants from the youth sector, micro and small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs), aspiring young entrepreneurs and academe joined us in the forum. Some of them raised questions during the open forum in which they are answered thoroughly by the panelists.

Ambassador David Thorne, the Senior Advisor to the Secretary of the State of the United States, gave us an inspirational message and shared that the digital technology is vastly changing day by day and that the next generation should be prepared to compete in a global scale. He advised, “You need to find that mentor, you need to open up and share. Look to each other for support.”

Senator Bam Aquino graced the event and inspired many through his talk about A Vision for Creativity and Innovation among Entrepreneurs, he stressed “Innovative spirit is what will carry us forward and take us to success.”

Sen. Bam Aquino "Entrepreneurship opens a lot of opportunity so be part of the big story, be enterprising"

Another enterprising event for a kind like me, I was able to join this 13 Enterprising individuals that show enthusiasm for innovation and creativity. An event that open us before jumping to the real world, one month from now - different track will open again, doors that shows the true behind theories and principle, a life that no point of return the corporate world but as the event says we hold the life we want, we can choose where to go. It is very great to be part of this group #IskolarAko

HR Student International Convention: Unbounded

We are 15 internationally inspired HR Students from the trade and commerce of the south. 15 proud biñanense, fulfilling our duties as a dreamer and making our lives to the fullest. As a probinsyano it is quite difficult for us to travel back and forth in Manila for a very good occasion but if you have the grit to make it like me, i don't hesitate because learning is priceless.

The event was held at The Grand Ballroom, Hotel Rembrandt, Tomas Morato, Quezon City last 2nd of March this Year. It is Actually their 6th Annual International Convention. I really appreciate the glamour, the classic style combined with Filipino leitmotif. You can feel the rhythm that you are internationally prepared.

Their are hundred of life lessons and inspiring words that increases my morale as an HR student, from kind words of Mr. Philbert Berba of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Company. From the challenging yet eye opening scenarios of Mr. Delane Lim of Agape Training Academy (Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia) From motivating and inspiring stories of Mr. Pondet Ananchai of Find tech Co. Ltd and to know he is only about my age and From Comic yet Vision changing words of Mr. Michael Angelo Lobrin, one of the best selling authors of our country.

As i construct this article, this might be my last seminar as an HR Student joining an HR Convention because next time will be my professional seminar as practitioner in my future industry. Someone asked me, why don't we challenge ourselves to be speaker after five years from now, why not? Every time i attended a seminar i brought so many stories at home, i brought so many motivation to wake up the next day.

To be unbounded, doesn't mean we have to be internationally acclaimed, the event just want us to know that we can be limitless. To be unwrapped for all the things around us whether its from cultural diversity, equal employment from all genders, no view of discrimination, easy adaptation from all the rejection and learn from failure. Maybe being internationally prepared is one the best suit for corporate people and future industry player but when you seek deeper, being internationally prepared is about understanding that you live in a rounder world of networks that is connected with one another, nodes by culture, race, belief, value and even how we see people as well but in the same scenario all of us always see ourselves whether you are boy, girl, gay, lesbian, fat, petite, small, tall, dark toned, white toned all of us is a container of life particles. Seeing ourselves that we are brought here in the world to live. We have to make sure our lives is not bounded but living with pure and dedicated soul of kindness.

As a Management student participating in a kind of event like this, assure me that growth is always anchored to all expenses i spent, from financial, effort and time. Students should learn that we have to seek knowledge more than sitting in an arm chair, all the opportunities are only around our means, we have to spend more of our time wisely yet enjoyable, we have to give our very best effort to make people smile and to secure that our parents are investing wisely into us, at the end of the day as a Filipino youth, we have to return what they gave because behind those penny is hundred of sweat, tears and blood that they worked on. I'm fortunate that i'm able to join this fifteen unique individuals that showed me that being an HR Student is also being an epitome of management and infinity, because we are limitless. I'll ask you, are you unbounded?

T&D: Pursuing Excellence

Ms. Swanee Gumatay
"The first time I was asked if I can teach about Training and Development for a seminar requirement for 4th year HR students of PUP Binan, I was hesitant to give an answer. I wanted to but I felt like I couldn't possibly teach something I was not directly involved in back in my HR days because I may not be knowledgeable enough about the topic. But for some reason, God wanted me to take this opportunity to share what I already know and have experienced. So I did. Little did I know that He was planning to use this talk to remind me of the many lessons I have learned in this life because I have chosen to be a learner. I was reminded that like T&D which aims to help employees become more productive and become better people, the lessons we learn in this life also help make our lives worthwhile and help us become better versions of ourselves. Learning never stops because there is always something to learn. And today, even though I may be the one who stood up in front and taught about the topic, I was also just a student, a learner who was reminded that yes, those who learn in life shall indeed win in life." Ms. Swanee Gumatay

I was roaming around the classroom holding a camera to take every angle of the event, yes i'm a seasonal photographer. Around November, our professor at MANA 4123 (Seminar-Workshop) gave us instruction to organize a seminar related to our field of study which is Human Resource - there are five topics, specifically aligned with our future endeavor; Health & Safety, Labor Relation, Recruitment, Human Resource Development and Compensation.

Today, we are assigned to do the seminar which is Human Resource Development. I've been doing organizing a seminar since i was in first year (oh my, i'm too old) but today is something different. I was grouped with people who are caring and know how to sympathized with one another, i was able to acknowledge that i'm not yet fully developed - there are things i need to learn more not just in academic but about in life (technically, i'm not an academic person haha) The event is not just an eye opener for a kind like me but it is also an enriching avenue for a craving soul of my expertise which is layout and design. This is the thing i shared "Within our college, i learned to proactively participate with everyone, You don't have to learn alone because you don't have to"

We would like to thank for the success of our seminar The Generics PharmacySonju Engineering ServicesReal Life Christian CommunitiesFanfreluche Enterprises Inc. and the rest of our sponsors.

We would also like to extend our heart warming appreciation for Ms. Sanrio PagsuyuinMr. Pol Galang and the rest of the team for being part of our seminar. And for all the things you taught and shared with us Ms. Swanee Gumatay it will always be part of who we are today and for our future endeavor, Gracias!  #IskolarAko

SP Mamplasan & San Miguel Corporation Tour

Our professor in International Management and Logistic Management gave us instruction to have a company tour for us to feel the actual manufacturing, packaging and their operation. SP Mamplasan Packaging gave us an opportunity to see how boxes are made, with dedication and pure competency their boxes were able to meet global and they are trusted by their international affiliates.

We saw how the company secure and assure quality performance through quality product. According to Sir Romy, the Plant Manager of SP Mamplasan "The packaging speaks for itself, you have to appreciate the boxes and the packaging, for you to love the actual product".

The tour gave us a hint of actual industry and hands on experience of what are the operation and how boxes are made, it seems to be easy but seeing the actual production you might think again because from acquiring, assessment and evaluation of the raw material up to evaluation and assessment of the finished goods is way to heavy but because they do have a good management and fast phased technology they were able to do it.

The company is keep on growing and as a student i saw that their will be greater heights of success for them. It is not just a box or a packaging but a piece of art, an art with heart of security for product and assurance of soul of the company.

To know more about the company visit their website: SP Mamplasan Packaging Corp.

Our Team With Sir Romy of SP Mamplasan Packaging
From Biñan, Laguna we went to Canlubang Industrial Site,Calamba, Laguna. We students were able to meet Sir Dario, the Logistic Manager of San Miguel Brewery, Inc in Canlubang. He is very hospitable and easy to get along but in term of operation and professional work he is a professional in deed. He gave us hint and instructions of how San Miguel were able to meet international, he gave us view points of what are the actual business operation in logistic and procurement.

San Miguel Beer products have consistently dominated the market for beer in the Philippines, the country's largest alcoholic beverage segment. Despite its dominant market position, SMB continues to find new ways to grow further its volumes and its market share in the Philippine beverage industry.

He said "You have to be fast because the industry is growing, if the delivery is slow possible costumer change it phase and find someone else. Logistic do have a domino effect, if you aren't able to meet the deadline - checkmate, so you have to be fast"

To know more about their company, visit their site: San Miguel Brewery Inc.

With Sir Dario of San Miguel Brewery Inc
The experience of learning from companies like SP Mamplasan and San Miguel Brewery is very conducive, making the student to feel the actual and hands on experience of the industry. For schools i suggest to let your student feel the rhythm of their corporate preparation, because aside from theoretical view they gave us practical orientation of what are the things to prepare.

Young Entrepreneurs Society - September Forum

I participated in a Monthly forum for September of Young Entrepreneurs Society regarding Angel Investors and other types of funding activities for a Startup-Business. I really like the venue - it is young, fresh, not so crowded - a very good place to be incubated at Green Sun Hotel, Impact Hub Manila.

I don't usually speak in a forum, seminar or workshop - i'm an avid fan of listening of what other people's view and it is actually entertaining and i learned a lot by how people see current trends, other stuff and their business proposition. Being an Aspiring Entrepreneur, i learned that it is not easy to start and it is normal to found no trace of where to begin.

I would like to thank my friend Mark for joining with me, it is a pleasure to learn something with your buddy. In this forum, they gave us a chance to meet people who are adept with entrepreneurial activities and as what i saw - listening is the most important and you have to observe to know where to start.

JPMAP Conference

Experience is Priceless, i knew it will be a long journey for us but at least we are trying our best to be an HR Practitioner. In a diversified  world like we do have, being one of pressured student from school, family and society - we usually found happiness from simple things and simple experience ...

JPMAP Conference entitled "Gear up, Go forward - prepare yourself, toward corporate diversity" at Claro M. Recto Hall, Sta. Mesa Manila. I experience a terribly great seminar-concert, for student and soon to be HR Practitioners.

I learned that Diversification is already inside the corporate world, from discrimination to social hierarchy. In business world, you will be judged - from the beginning up to the final run. You have to know your rights and stand for what you believe, you have to be strong, bold, honest and truthful,

Business world is full of surprises, you have to entitle yourself as a strong individual with strong vision and you will be judge no matter what, but if you know who you are - justification is not needed. Because people tends to question your persona by what are the things they really want to hear, so stop proving your self - believe me.

HPAIR Manila - Filipino Night

Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR). Seeing the beauty of our culture in the positive feedback of our friends from our neighboring countries. Philippines is vibrant and beautiful from all angle and i'm really proud to say i'm a Filipino.

I had an opportunity to participate and volunteer for the Filipino Night anchored with Go Negosyo. The HPAIR Manila was celebrated at Manila Polo Club, Makati City, Manila.

I really love Pastel - the well savored and baked goodies of pastel is actually to hitch in because of the sweet flavor of Yema. We are assigned to cater and give assistance for the delegate, and i found very interesting conversation with them and create happy moments with my co-volunteers. I learned to mingle and start conversation. You can see the interest of Delegates in our country, asking about our culture, values, ethics, places to be proud of, and all Filipino stuff. Philippines is a vibrant and colorful country, we must show how colorful we are. I was given a chance to meet people all over the world and looking forward for longer conversation.

As what i saw, i felt jealous toward them because the delegate can go outside their country even they are still students. I wish i can do it the same and show the world - That I'm a Filipino and show the colors of my country. I'm also amazed by how these delegates have the grit to learn and mingle, they do have the interest to talk with you, they have the interest about learning and most of them are able to synchronize what they do have in their country for what they have found out here in the Philippines.

Learning is Fun but learning is not just about reading, arithmetic etc, but also to be able to learn things that are not bounded which are not teach-able inside our classroom, open yourself from everything. I knew i'm jealous but i'm more amazed to them.

Youth Entrepreneurship Development Workshop

Visayas

You should Never stop Learning, I was able to meet and get mentored by different people from different part of National Capital region even though i came from Region 4-A (Laguna). I was able to meet people from the world of Entrepreneurship, Corporate Ideologies and Business Personalities.

The Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (Go Negosyo) and the US Embassy in the Philippines partner for the launch of its Youth Entrepreneurship Development Workshop (YEDW) 2015.

YEDW is a developmental three-day workshop for existing Filipino young entrepreneurs and young aspiring entrepreneurs (with actual business ideas) that will be held in Manila, Batangas, Iloilo and Zamboanga.

The four initial workshops will include training, networking, and mentorship opportunities, as well as U.S. exchange program alumni and Go Negosyo angelpreneurs who will be guest speakers and mentors.

The first day of the workshop featured talks & mentoring sessions from Dean Pax Lapid (Entrepreneurial Mindset), Mr. Calo Calimon (Marketing for Start-ups) & Ms. Tess Dimaculangan (Understanding Business Finance), Mr. Bong Jiao, and Go Negosyo Executive Director, Mr. Ramon Lopez.
Our friends from the US Embassy, Ms. Bettina Malone (Counselor for Public Affairs) and Elisabeth Liu (Cultural Affairs) joined us in welcoming the participants. The first day of the workshop ended through the fellowship night where participants get a chance to network with one another and interact with invited young entrepreneurs like Zarah Juan (Green Leaf Eco Bags), Mr. Francis Simisim (When in Manila Co-Founder), Mr. Lourd Ramos (Creations Salon), & Mr. Bryan McClelland (Bambike).

for the First Day of Workshop we are able to meet our future business colleagues and friends, the first part taught us: Why do we want to be an Entrepreneur? Why Entrepreneur? What is the potential of your business Idea?

As aspiring Entrepreneur - i realized, that the potentiality of business idea is not only about your willingness to make your idea to happen but to recognized factors that may able to affect your idea through out the way. You have to learn to be truthful, honest and mastering oneself - from ambition, belief and even to accept failure and mistakes.

Even though i was soaking wet from day one and shivering from the coldness of the venue at St. Giles Hotel, Makati City, Manila - Learning will always be my first priority, Most of my colleagues, used to have their own cars and even driven by their own personal drivers and i'm here walking under the rain. I realized while seeking for St. Giles, learning is hundred miles away and will always be - because, it is limitless, an infinite void of knowledge, if you want it - you have to strive for it.

The second day of the workshop featured talks on special entrepreneurship topics from Mr. Earl Valencia of IdeaSpace Foundation (Lessons from IdeaSpace & Pitching Your Start-up), Mr. Navin Uttamchandani, (Esquire Financing President & COO (Funding for Young Start-ups), Mr. Butz Bartolome of GMB Franchise Developers, Inc. (Franchising 101) and Dr. Paris de L’etraz of IE Business School (Comfort Zones: On Business & Life Success).

Seasoned entrepreneurs were also invited to share the story of their businesses to our participants. Present were Ms. Clang Garcia (Jeepney Tours), Ms. Stella Sy (Mint), Ms. Patsy Paterno (Papemelroti), Ms. Jill Borja (Manang’s Chicken) and Mr. Ifore Yu (Chicken Charlie).

Participants also presented their business models and mentored by Mr. Ramon Lopez (Go Negosyo Executive Director), Mr. Butz Bartolome and Dr. Paris de L’etraz.

Day 2 we are able to Master the Opportunity, learn to compel the reason why we need to be an entrepreneur. Recognize the Market, Financial Study, Estimating Sales, and the give value of your self as worthy entrepreneur. As i was walking around the road again. Something triggers me to look at, people from Makati are fast walker (not zombies) but they usually took importance of the time and make a self worth assessment every morning. I was amazed by how big the building are, the height is usually around twenty plus floors and the most interesting part, it is actually a fast phase corporate cradle for everyone. You have to see the beauty of having a serendipity walk, it is most interesting part of always walking.

The last of the three-day developmental workshop started with a message from USAID represented by Dr. Mario Lamberte. The participants had their chance to pitch and present their respective business models. There 2 categories for the said workshop: the existing business and business idea. Members of the panel of judges include Dr. Ed Canela, Mr. RamonLopez, Dean Pax Lapid, Ms. Tess Dimaculangan, Mr. Carlo Calimon and our friends from the US Embassy.

At the end of the workshop, 10 businesses from each category (total of 20) were named to join us in the grand workshop happening in November of this year in time with the APEC Summit.

Rachel de Villa won the P10,000 cash prize for her business idea Cropital and Flora Señosa won the P30,000 cash prize for her existing agri-business.

The last Day of the Workshop - The pitching Process, we are able to know our potential and what are the things to rectify with our business proposal. I was corrected and taught what to track and when to do it. Life is always reminding us about our purpose but choices aligned you to set up your self. I'm grateful to be part of the workshop and i will always be grateful for YEWD 2015.
