#BiyaherongPuyat

Narealize ko sa haba ng panahon pinipilit kong maging influential sa language na di naman ako comfortable, don't get me wrong but it seems like na pinipilit ko lang sa English ang mga blogpost ko, which is pwede ko namang gawing taglish to make it easier for me to express my thoughts and adventure. [Na-Inspire talaga ako ni Bimbi hahaha]
Patapat Viaduct, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte
Back in September, I and my barkada went to Ilocos Region for like 2 days and 1 night escapade. Umalis kami ng late thursday evening, pick up point: Mall of Asia, Pasay City. Around 9:00 evening. Very Supportive brother Mark "Kim", Bubbly with a little bit of spice, Samantha.

[Left to Right] Daniel, Resie, Sam, Mark at Ako
Dahil first time kong magtravel kasama ang barkada at first time namin ang mag travel package, medyo kabado at the same time excited. Sa dami ng activities, sobrang memorable ng first and looking forward para sa mas maraming escapade. Di ko malilimutan ang taho ni kuya, "Kuya puro sago lang po?" for real, kuya is about to give us a cup of tapioca. The experience of meeting great people like Kuya Patrick, Kuya Nier and Ate Alex, giving us pieces of advise about facing individual lives, love struggle and personal endeavor. Thank you sa Travel 8 Tours [www.triple8travel.com] for safe and memorable travel experience. 10 Stars kayo for this Escapade. Check my instagram post [@iskolar_studio] medyo marami rami ang post nung gumala kami sa Ilocos, where we sought out the rich treasures of Ilocandia.

Sinimulan ko naman ang month of October with a breeze, i went to City of Baguio. I was with my office mates (di ba hindi nauubusan ng dahilan para gumala at mag unwind). Feeling ko din photographer ako that time, mobile photography na walang extra battery or power bank man lang as back up (Malaking pasasalamat sa mga kaibigan kong laging nagdadala ng powerbanks)

Masasa, Tingloy Beach, Batangas
Una kong punta dito is, kasama ang team namin sa work for team building back noong February. Maybe my soul is wandering around, pinakikiramdaman at nilalasap ang maalat na hangin.

#BiyaherongPuyat. See you around ka-iskolar.

Designing, Building, and Eating at Project Pie

Hello there, World! Gjorj here :)

It has been a while since I wrote a blog post due to that I cannot write any good material without going out. But now I do! :)

I just thought of writing because hours ago, I was in an interesting restaurant. This restaurant is called Project Pie. From the name, you'd think that it's a pizza place. Well, it is, but it offers more than just pizza. They also serve salads (for you health-conscious folks out there) and pastas (for you pasta-lovers out there).

My mother brought me along to meet her old officemates, and we ate at Project Pie for lunch. We were rather lost as to what to do if a waiter will come to us or we will go to them. The staff was so nice to help us out, and guided us on what to do.

One of the main things that makes this place interesting is that you can build your own pizzas, salads, and pastas. Of course, being the pizza lover that I am, I took the build your own pizza route.

First, on a pizza dough that I estimated as about, a foot in diameter, you choose what sauce that you want, like tomato sauce, white sauce, etc. I chose the classic tomato sauce. Then, you move on to cheeses. I chose to put the blue cheese, and mozarella. Next, you add whatever topping that you want, from meats to veggies. I chose mostly meats, and a bit of veggies too, so that the guy that was putting together the pizza for me won't judge me.
Finally, it goes in to the oven and all you have to do is wait.

My mother and her friends got pasta and salads. Have you ever tasted a salad with raspberry sauce drizzled on it? I know, weird right? A leafy salad with raspberry sauce on it. But surprisingly, it's actually good. I mostly ate that salad than the savory salad. I didn't got the chance to taste the pasta though, maybe next time?

Oh, of course I got to eat my pizza. It was good and yummy. The blue cheese made it interestingly tasty too. There are also some desserts and almost of their dessert items contain nutella. Can't wait to try that too! The best part is that you can also refill your drinks.

About the interior of the restaurant, it has that rustic feel in it. And there's a cool wall that looks like a white board and it contains these quotes on them. We chose to sit next to the window because it looked quite comfortable to sit there, and it is. While they were chatting away about the good ol' days, I just looked at the people walking by.

If you want to visit Project Pie and design, build, and eat your meal, it's located at Makati, Metro Manila, near the Dusit Thani Hotel, and SM Makati.

I hope you enjoyed reading, and I'll write again soon. :)

Fast Food: Good or Bad

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the definition of obesity is when your body mass index (BMI) is 30.0 or higher (so i'm safe, i think hahaha). Food is fuel for your body. It has a direct impact on how you feel as well as on your overall health. Fast food isn’t necessarily bad, but in many cases it’s highly processed and contains large amounts of carbohydrates, added sugar, unhealthy fats, and salt (sodium).

I believe, that eating in fast food is enough to say good. McDonald's and Jollibee are well known brand of fast food here in the Philippines, providing accessible food, employment and conducive place to eat. Carinderia or Cafeteria along the road, for me is considered as fast food even though their foods are mainly lutong bahay, they make foods accessible for those who are in need. Yeah the first two brands, manufactured their food in factory but they are intended to be sold for easy access. Foods that are mass produced, prepared and served quickly and may be relatively less nutritionally valuable compared to other foods and dishes like the lutong bahay but let us discuss the positive side of fast food:

A positive aspect of fast-food chains compared to some other more formal eateries is the availability of nutritional information. It's typically posted on menu boards as well as available on in-store flyers. Knowing the nutrition of the foods you're about to order can help you make more informed and healthier choices.

Fast food often seems like a quick solution for families with small children and working parents, but trying to instill healthy eating habits in young lives can be a challenge at fast food chains. The good news is that healthier, kid-friendly alternatives are becoming more available. For example, low-fat milk is an option in place of sugary sodas. You can also opt for apple slices instead of high-fat French fries in many cases. The positives of fast-food restaurants can go beyond the cost and convenience factors with a little effort in choosing the healthier options on the menu.

But what makes the fast food negative in ourselves? Through media, through mouth or how we see the outcome of those who have irresponsible eating habit. Media brought a lot of negative views toward fast food, a lot of things were made to scrutinize how fast food succeed and still making their way in the industry. Media is major sources of information but sometimes media brought negativity instead of promoting responsible eating. Secondly, through mouth - people tends to keep on saying things that is either from their experience or someone else experience which creates guesses for those who want to try fast food. And lastly, we are afraid to try because we saw people who are obese or having illnesses but why they keep on buying the same brand? right because they can't control their selves anymore.

You have to keep on your self, Responsibility is not only in classroom or at your community but also in your perspective about health. Through Responsible eating, you are able to make things balance, if its too much ask yourself again, "am i taking this food too much?" Learning how to make healthier food choices when you do dine out can also assist you in reducing the health risks of fast food. The following tips can help:

Educate yourself about nutritional information before ordering. Even if that information is not available at the restaurant, you can typically find it online. Seeing this information in black and white may be enough to help you in making healthier decisions when the time comes to order.

Keep portion sizes small. Many fast food chains today encourage customers to upgrade their meals by pricing them competitively. Avoid the temptation to order a larger size simply because it is only slightly higher in price than a regular size.

All of the things we do are bad if it is too much, you have to manage what is needed and what is want. You have to make yourself in between, be responsible of what might happen if you eat too much or you eat too less.

Three Tips You Need to Know when Commuting

Hey there, World! Gjorj here. :)

Last week, we went to Quezon City for an HR convention. It was my first time going there so it was a good thing that I had my classmates with me because if I am alone I could get lost.

I occasionally go to events like anime events and seminars, to learn and have fun. Usually these events are quite far and since I don't have a car, I have to commute and I need to be with someone to go there (I can't commute to far places alone yet...) So, if you don't commute to far places everyday like me, but you have somewhere to go, here are a few things you should always remember:

1. Bring snacks and water. Okay, so you have travelled far and wide, then suddenly you became hungry. It is best that you have some biscuits or snacks in your bag while you are stuck in traffic or on the go. It is bad to be hungry while you are traveling because you might faint or go weak. Also it is important to bring water to keep yourself hydrated, especially if you are the kind to save money and just do walk-trip. Speaking of money...

2. Make sure to have enough money. You should plan how much you will bring for your trip like for the commuting money back and forth, food money, and also money for buying the things you need and want. Worst scenario when you commute? You don't have enough money going home, so it is important to plan your money and bring extra money when you can.

3. Be alert with your surroundings. These days, there are just some people who do bad things to gain money or they do it because they have not been in their right minds. Make sure you protect your bag from anyone that can open your bag and take your wallet and valuables. Don't just take out your things all willy nilly, you should go to safe places to take them out whenever you need to use them. Always be alert, if you notice that somebody is suspicious, stay away because most likely that person will plan something bad. If you are with a group, stay close to them, do not get separated.

So those are the top three tips that I will advice to you people who are not adventurous but would like to go somewhere new to gain experiences.

I hope you enjoyed reading, and I'll write again soon. :)

Laguna de Baý: The beauty of yesterday

Wikipinoy

I grew up looking at the horizon of this beautiful creation. Yeah it somehow already destroyed because of several non-biodegradable waste which are product of human selfishness but if you look again, the lake remind us the history, the beauty created by time and shares several stories (kinda creepy, but that how i see things)

As i remember around August of 2013 an announcement about the laguna lakeshore express dike will be constructed, a proposed expressway in the Philippines that will start from the coastal area of Laguna de Bay from Taguig in Metro Manila to Calamba and Los Baños in Laguna. According to my research, the project will involve the construction of a 47-kilometre-long (29 mi), six-lane dike including bridges, pumping stations and ancillary flood gates. The project aims to provide a high-standard highway that will speed up traffic between the southern part of Metro Manila and Laguna, as well as a dike that would mitigate flooding in the western coastal communities along Laguna Lake. The expressway will cost an estimated Php 36.74 billion or US$854.42 million. When constructed, it is expected to ease traffic congestion along Muntinlupa and Calamba area, and to serve as flood control measure for communities on the western shore of Laguna de Bay.

But i will let you ask yourself, do we really need to modernize everything just to make an ease for us? Is it tragic that we need to sacrifice a beautiful lake shores just to reduce the traffic and control flood that in the first place we were the reason why things wrapping around. If we want something to change, we have to start now - reduce consumption of plastic, be environmentally friendly, follow traffic rules and appreciate the beauty of our land, be part of the nature you want to conserve.

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed.” Mahatma Gandhi

Maestro Fedeli Cafe

We had a very interesting discussion and chit-chat with our resource speaker Ms. Swanee Gumatay, my friend Andrea and i was amazed by how cozy the cafe is. I was brought in a country yard cafe with a lot of semi cowboy style ambiance. I really felt comfortable with the arrangement and motif.

The frappe and everything in the menu is quite expensive for a iskolar like me but i come up in a realization, i didn't actually paid for the food but for the place - and it is worth staying. Aside from the place, the staffs are also hospitable and kind, they smile and give us very good assistance. Additional points for the cafe. When you feel like you need a place to relax and looking for a local brand of cafe, Maestro Fedeli is a good place to check in.

If interested you can visit their cafe at Brgy. Canlalay, Biñan City, Laguna around Areza Building. Feel the rhythm of getaway and country side ambiance. Gracias Maestro Fedeli #IskolarAko

Pinoy Street Food Adventure

from appetizer to side dishes, from beverage to main course, from desert to fruits enselada, Oh come on, i'm just a child with huge stomach bank. When i took my first isaw when i was grade six, everything change up until the point of walang makakapigil sa akin! isaw + proben + mais con yelo = solve na ako, Burp! Filipino street delicacies is one of the reason why i'm proud to be Pinoy. Pagkain ang bumubuhay sa katawang lupa ko, nagpapakulay sa kaluluwa ko - bahagi sya ng maraming story at adventures, so come and join my gourmet escapade.

Here is my 8 must try Filipino Street Food:

I do have a sweet tooth, i crave for sweets and other sugary spies and everything nice, i love taho because of its sweetness and the same with hot silken tofu mixed with tapioca pearl, mas masarap sya pag mainit pa, yung tipong mapapaso ka sa hawak mong baso. When you hear someone shouting "tahooooo" early as the sun started to poke you, don't hesitate because taho is taho, tapos ang usapan.

I really feel like floating in between the air, when walking along the aisle of ihawan sa amin - para kasing angkan ng mga mag iihaw sa city market-place, My experience of eating my very first isaw, i almost like ugh! why do people eat internal organ? but i really jumped out of my bed when i ate my very first isaw, napa - ham-bame (teacher georcelle) ako sa sarap, i tasted the bitterness of the intestine combined with the savory sweet of the sauce. Well, in my experience, you have to know who cooked and clean it, so atleast you have an idea how they come up with very interesting food like isaw.

It is a fertilized duck egg, you'll gonna hear it in the middle of the night, someone shouting like taho but with a stronger and rising tone "baluuuut" (parang mali?) minsanan lang talaga ako kumain nyan, maliban sa naawa ako sa mga sisiw, eh hanggang sabaw lang ako (oo ako na ang mahina ang loob) - must try sya kasi, filipino delicacy at remarkable ang taste at texture nya pag kinain mo, kinda weird but it taste so ver good (sorry sim-simi, nadamay yung pinsan mo)

4. Kwek-Kwek at Tuknene, eto yung masarap sa tapat ng school o tutusok ka muna bago umuwi, it's either may mangkok or B-B-Que stick lang yun meron, sasaw saw ka sa suka na merong cucumber at mongo sprout or sa matamis na gravy (gravy ba yun? basta kulay brown) Kwek kwek is a deep fried colored orange batter with whole quailed egg while the tuknene is deep fried colored white batter with pieces of egg, basically tuknene is cheaper and smaller than kwek-kwek. Naalala ko tuloy yung pakulong, iba iba yung kulay ng kwek kwek - di ko alam kung matatawa ako, madidisapoint - di na kasi sya appetizing pag may kulay na blue, violet, black, red (ano to angry bird and the mighty morphine?) Anyway kwek-kwek and tuknene are very famous street foods, anywhere you go - kwek-kwek kiosk is almost everywhere.

7. Sorbetes, kung gusto mo malamig talaga mag dirty ice cream tayo, di ko alam kung bakit dirty ice cream ang tawag kahit na mukha namang maayos yung sorbetero namin, minsan nga natanong ko kay manong bakit dirty ice cream, alam nya nagsimula daw yun sa alamat ng saging na sumibol sa gitna ng gubat, to cut the long story - di nya alam.

8. Turon at Banana-Que, one of my favorite - a banana wrapped around in a spring roll wrapper and banana sugary-coated, I loveit especially when my mom deep fried it with cinnamon, i love the smell and especially the taste. Tuwing maghahapon maraming ganito para pang miryenda, hindi ko alam pero nagsasama sama halos lahat ng nasabi ko pag miryenda time - Filipinos really love to eat, not just occasionally but a a matter of routine for us walang makaka awat kung gusto kong kumain haha gutom ako tapos ang usapan.

Survival Tips for Newbie-Commuter

Yes Folk, what you see is the actual train of the Philippine National Railways - Way back when i was second year, we intentionally sneak out from our campus going to Sta. Mesa to have fun and feel what is being a Manila student. I experienced a lot from maipit sa sobrang daming tao, maging kakambal na ang bakal at pinto sa sobrang siksikan, ang habulan experience para sa huling larga ng tren at marami pang iba. If you really an adventurous and someone searching for challenging experience, why don't you try PNR experience especially yung biyernes at rush hours, maghanda ka na ng sandaang porsyento ng depensa at opensa mo, kasi papasukin mo ang mundo ng walang urungan.
As an avid fan of commuting, whether its rainy, sunny, windy as long as no suspension, go ako dyan, mula jeep, Light Rail Transit or Metro Manila Rail Transit, Tricycle, Truck or pedicab na try ko na, aba ikaw na ang limited ang budget sino pa ba ang hindi maghahanap ng ikakatipid nya, kaya suki ako ng unli-lakad mapa bahay man o galaan. Traveling is fun, especially when you are fond of searching beautiful sites out of no where. I don't have HD phones or Camera, kaya minsan nakiki shot nalang ako with my classmates.

Here is my Top 5 Tips for you sa pag cocommute:

1. Know where you are going, Mabuti na yung may alam ka sa kung saan ka pupunta especially kung galing kang probinsya gaya ko. It is actually the first and my for most tip for you, Ka-iskolar - if you are going to attend to a seminar, workshop, forum or just gala, Don't hesitate to ask google about the place (google, last minute birthday idea haha) look for the most accessible and well known land mark like Mall, Shopping center, Government Establishment or just any you found easy to memorize. Sabi nga ni kuya kim "Lamang ang may alam!" kaya know more before you go.

(Tada!)
As the first tip says, you should looked forward to possible rush hour experience because you already know where you are going, There should be no complaints, stop mumbling or murmuring about it.

4. Always Prepare Barya, Minimal amount around fifty pesos below, It will be easier for the driver or konduktor to give your change. Pangalawa para di na rin sya maka breezy move saiyo "ay pogi, kulang ng lima - ok lang ba?" mga planadong strategy, well whether they are lying or not, you should pay attention to your payments, as commuter we aimed to reduce cost thru traveling but if you continue not to recognize it, sana nag charity ka nalang pogi.

5. Don't afraid to Ask, I know a lot of people that hesitate to ask, because they feel to afraid to called ignorant in the road or they just maintaining their poses out of the crowd osya, sila na ang mga high class, but if you ask, you were able to know if you can avail discounts, cheaper route, possible adventure get away or just shorter and smarter way out of the labyrinth. Huwag kang matakot magtanong, syempre pipiliin mo kung sino tatanunangan mo like MMDA, Policemen, Traffic Enforcer or any other government official that might give you hint, pwede din yung mga security guard, Food stall steward or just simple and plain magtataho at nagtitinda ng candy at cigarette. Trust is expensive but if you know they are sincere about what they are trying to impart with you, why don't you try to trust them and if someone made something terribly with you or make fun out of you - make them as your lesson for today. Von Voyage!
