According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the definition of obesity is when your body mass index (BMI) is 30.0 or higher (so i'm safe, i think hahaha). Food is fuel for your body. It has a direct impact on how you feel as well as on your overall health. Fast food isn’t necessarily bad, but in many cases it’s highly processed and contains large amounts of carbohydrates, added sugar, unhealthy fats, and salt (sodium).
I believe, that eating in fast food is enough to say good. McDonald's and Jollibee are well known brand of fast food here in the Philippines, providing accessible food, employment and conducive place to eat. Carinderia or Cafeteria along the road, for me is considered as fast food even though their foods are mainly lutong bahay, they make foods accessible for those who are in need. Yeah the first two brands, manufactured their food in factory but they are intended to be sold for easy access. Foods that are mass produced, prepared and served quickly and may be relatively less nutritionally valuable compared to other foods and dishes like the lutong bahay but let us discuss the positive side of fast food:
A positive aspect of fast-food chains compared to some other more formal eateries is the availability of nutritional information. It's typically posted on menu boards as well as available on in-store flyers. Knowing the nutrition of the foods you're about to order can help you make more informed and healthier choices.
Fast food often seems like a quick solution for families with small children and working parents, but trying to instill healthy eating habits in young lives can be a challenge at fast food chains. The good news is that healthier, kid-friendly alternatives are becoming more available. For example, low-fat milk is an option in place of sugary sodas. You can also opt for apple slices instead of high-fat French fries in many cases. The positives of fast-food restaurants can go beyond the cost and convenience factors with a little effort in choosing the healthier options on the menu.
But what makes the fast food negative in ourselves? Through media, through mouth or how we see the outcome of those who have irresponsible eating habit. Media brought a lot of negative views toward fast food, a lot of things were made to scrutinize how fast food succeed and still making their way in the industry. Media is major sources of information but sometimes media brought negativity instead of promoting responsible eating. Secondly, through mouth - people tends to keep on saying things that is either from their experience or someone else experience which creates guesses for those who want to try fast food. And lastly, we are afraid to try because we saw people who are obese or having illnesses but why they keep on buying the same brand? right because they can't control their selves anymore.
You have to keep on your self, Responsibility is not only in classroom or at your community but also in your perspective about health. Through Responsible eating, you are able to make things balance, if its too much ask yourself again, "am i taking this food too much?" Learning how to make healthier food choices when you do dine out can also assist you in reducing the health risks of fast food. The following tips can help:
Educate yourself about nutritional information before ordering. Even if that information is not available at the restaurant, you can typically find it online. Seeing this information in black and white may be enough to help you in making healthier decisions when the time comes to order.
Keep portion sizes small. Many fast food chains today encourage customers to upgrade their meals by pricing them competitively. Avoid the temptation to order a larger size simply because it is only slightly higher in price than a regular size.
All of the things we do are bad if it is too much, you have to manage what is needed and what is want. You have to make yourself in between, be responsible of what might happen if you eat too much or you eat too less.
