It's been 3 days already after my graduation and still, i can't go of it. I know i have to move on and go with my unemployment life but the disparity i have right now holds me. I was wondering is it just me or is anybody else experience this as well. The eagerness to find a job before graduation is totally different right now after the ceremony. The feeling of need to look for a company vanished, maybe because my parents told me not to frustrate myself or maybe the eagerness to find job before graduation is brought by envy i have from my classmates, who already found their companies before the ceremony.
This is my 6 Facts about Graduation i experienced:
1. The feeling of "Yes! Tapos na!" is nostalgic
From all the odds and challenges brought by college, i think shouting and throwing your graduation cap is necessary. The experience, learning and stories brought together by the institution is just a piece of your journey but your attitude to surpass all the challenges is actually the main point. While saying all your promises to yourself after the ceremony everything you've done flashed back from the moment of collecting all your requirements before entering college up until preparing from the final march. The feeling of an ending is bittersweet, as what my friend @Gjorj said. Maybe because we shared stories and experiences along the road, the journey of preparing for linggo ng wika, practices at pacita for cheering competition, doing some research papers and typing all the details regarding the seminar, chatting and walking along the road going home or just as simple as kumain ng kikiam at tinapay sa may bakery. The feeling for me is unavoidable, i know you experienced it as well.
2. Walking with your Toga brought so many memories
Like the first one it is kinda nostalgic but wearing your toga while your hood is on your right arm and walking on the red carpet looking at the stage is like uplifting yourself saying "I'm a degree holder". I'm fortunate that my parents were able to send me in college, the experience of walking wearing your black graduation gown is priceless - telling to yourself that you are able to go this far, that everything you've done is paid off.
3. Seeing your parents proud is priceless
I was looking at my parents, staring at their reactions and making them feel that the ceremony is for them. The most expensive part of the ceremony is making your parents proud. Yeah, they do have gifts but at the end of the day seeing your parents smiling at you with teary eyes is more priceless than everything they gave to you. Parents are the protagonist of the ceremony, maybe they are not the one receiving the diploma but the diplomas and medals are made for their undying love for us.
4. Self-deprecating little voice keep on bothering you at night
The night after the ceremony, someone is asking you "oh anong plano mo, si ganyan may trabaho na sa ganito, si ganito may trabaho na sa ganyan, anong plano mo?" someone keep on deprecating you, wondering your classmate that nearly as dedicated as you or who are not-nearly as strong as you seem to do better than you in finding job. The person telling you that, is making a game. Testing your inner strength, resiliency, creativity and optimism. That person is actually you, yourself making constant negative thoughts of what lies ahead after this. You have to understand that people like us do have different time zones, maybe companies doesn't call you this week but be optimistic that they are just waiting for the right time or as simple you deserve something better. as what i read reprogram yourself, look for happiness and make it your priority secondly do have some new routine of discipline for the reprogramming.
5. You keep on searching on the net but everything is blank
After the day of the ceremony, i experienced the random search online syndrome. Looking for job, surfing the news feed, stalking someone, looking at the photos, reading random stuff, click a video on youtube then at the middle i turned it off. I'm in the feeling of where to go, what to search and what i need. All things are blank, the feeling of after highschool graduation then i come to realize, maybe i have to go and write something new. The feeling is still their but i'm looking forward and holding to what i want.
6. The beginning starts with you not with the ceremony
We keep on posting that this is just the beginning after the ceremony but to be honest whether you succeed to walk along with the graduates and still you don't know where to go, it is not the beginning. For me, the starting line always starts with you, maybe the event remind us that all the things we've gone through ends here but the beginning of accepting that your academic journey already ended starts by accepting that you are now entering in another world.
I know the disparity of removing your title as a student because right now i felt that being student is the only excuse we could have to tell the society not to bother us with adult stuff but the institution taught us to be prepared for this moment and gave us the experience that being a student is one of most cherished moments we could have through out our career and in life. #Gracias #IskolarAko
