7 useful Tips for Career Planning

Before you begin your career search, ask yourself a few questions. What do you want to do? What are you trying to do? What kind of job do you want? sa ganoong paraan alam mo kung saan at ano talaga ang gusto mo. Kailangan mong magpakatotoo, para sa ganoon, alam mo kung saan papunta. Kahit ako di ko alam kung saan ako dadalhin ng hangin, but currently i'm preparing my portfolio to be more attractive for my potential employer.

Here is my 7 useful tips for our Career Planning:

1. Know what skills you enjoy using
Job-hunting requires going back to step one. Make a list of your abilities and acquired knowledge; this will assist in making career decisions. You should develop an understanding of yourself including values, interests, aptitudes, abilities, personal traits, and desired lifestyle, and become aware of the inter-relationship between you and your occupational choice.

2. Match your interests to career-related skills
To make a successful career choice, you must match your interests with the skills you want to offer. Try using a self-assessment test to help identify your aptitudes, personality, and interests. These tests allow you to determine your strengths and match them to career-building skills. For an instance Universum Career Test offers very useful examination.

3. Identify a career direction & Assess your career choices
I know how frustrating it is when the examination sounds "what? i didn't know that, how come i'm a software engineer?" Even if they offer a lot of answer in front of you; to be an entrepreneur, senior human resource staff, junior graphic designer or any, if you Don't want, its ok - for me, it is important that your willingness, expertise and values collide and mix very well, sa ganoong paraan mo malalaman na mahal at gusto mo yung ginagawa mo. Sa ganoong paraan, alam mong magtatagal ka; hindi pabara-bara or someone that smother time. Willingness surely is important.

4. Maximize your resources & Gain practical experience
While doing this things like preparing resume and portfolio, don't be afraid to add some more; like take online classes, webinars, actual forum, conference, seminars, make used all your resources as student. minsan ka lang maging student, maraming discount and opportunity outside school, igrab mo agad, don't hesitate - through interactive activities like those, you'll gain experience, expertise and you may able to add it to your profile and look more attractive to your potential employer.

Do not limit yourself to looking for new careers in growing industries. What is hot today is not always cool tomorrow, and there is usually strong competition in these areas. Let your research carry you into unexpected and unanticipated areas. You may be surprised at what you discover. Expand your horizon, make learning as your driving force and go outside your comfort zone. “Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.” Yoda, Star Wars

5. Interview people whose occupations interest you, Discuss career choices with people you know
I usually ask my mom about what possible career that might suit to a kind like me, dati naiirita ako sa ganoon - na nagtatanong ako sa parents ko about possible route but eventually i realized, they are not the basis of my choices but my concrete frame to make those things to happen. Parents are willing listen and give advises - don't hesitate "Tay ok lang ba kung sa ganyan kumpanya ako magtratarabaho,? sa ganito ako magsisimula?" Why not, like what i said earlier whether you accept or reject their opinion, if you don't like it, stop and then go another way. Ask your Alumni about their current job, their realization after college, their hack tips for fresh graduates - it might be your hint to corporate world and additional preparation. Hindi dapat natatakot ang iskolar na magtanong, lakas ng loob lang yan.

6. Prepare a career portfolio & resume
Create a very good portfolio, a portfolio that looks exactly like you. A detailed, simple, neat and organized information regarding about your self. Prepare a collection of work samples, a resume, recommendations, a list of references, transcripts, copies of applications, and other pertinent data.

7. Stay focus and Be Patient
After all of the researching, interviewing, exploring, and assessing you have completed, you should have a general idea of your likes and dislikes and a general idea of what you are good at. Now it is time to focus on the specific careers that maximize all of these areas and Be patient and be realistic. Do not expect a glamorous career to appear immediately. Use your common sense, listen to other people’s advice, be yourself in interviews, and do the necessary work to take you flying above your dreams.
